Of course being a British expat tea holds a special place in my heart, bad tea together with missing Coronation street were a couple of aspects of the British culture that 20 years ago I found it very hard to live without, thank goodness they soon started to import Tetley tea and show the street on Canadian TV .
Tea is definitely an art form and I’m sorry to say one that most places in North America have not yet grasped, despite all Tim Hortons efforts at steeped tea . Tea has a certain elegance about it, to which coffee can not aspire ,a ceremony , it has that extra element of grace associated with it that coffee doesn’t, why else do you find all these poems about tea, try as I might to find any verses there are few that wax lyrical on the subject of coffee.
I liked the poem and wanted to incorporate it into a pages handmade gifts design. The verse has a very British upper class tone to it , the first time I ever set eyes on the verse I imagined Julie Andrews as her Mary Poppins character gliding round the room recounting the merits of a good cup of English tea .
