About

Welcome to the new home of Along the Garden Path , along with the new location comes a new name Gardening Insights ,  with the new home and new look I have decided to direct the blog towards  beginner and novice gardeners as they need most help and often more experienced gardeners forget what it was like not to know the difference between an annual and a perennial plant  Also here I  am hoping to be able to post more regularly and I have also acquired a partner who will be writing on such topics Gifts for Gardeners and creating focal points and garden art for the your gardening spaces with an emphasis on using re purposed and recycled materials.

Two years of back problems, prevented me from doing very much at all. Let alone the garden, the complete absence of even a hint of a green  thumb on any of  my family member’s , no thought of mowing the lawn, let alone watering the plants, entered any one of their heads. You may imagine in what condition I found my garden when I returned to it after my back surgery. The problems of two years unchecked weed growth and no watering, besides what fell naturally, compounded by the loss of all privacy due to a newly built sub division.

My husband commented that I had my work cut out, that my once beautiful garden was all “dead fish and dog crap” and he wasn’t wrong, they had not bothered to pick up after the dog, and something had been at the pond fish and left half consumed fishy corpses strewn around the pond.

Having no fellow gardeners amongst my immediate family (obviously) and no gardening buddies, I decided to create this web log in hope of finding some on line.

A year on, not a lot has changed except for the worse perhaps , last year mainly due to the huge amount of wet days we had little was accomplished , dug new pond which seemed fine while it was empty but that was in early May before rains started  however as soon as added liner and fish  after 3rd terrential down pour in one week sides caved in, so had to remove liner and fish then I follwed steps 1-5 for the rest of the year 1)more rain ,2)hole filled up with rain water ,3)more earth caved in4) drained it ,5)waited for a couple of days for  it to dry out a little to dig out collapsed banks , 6)it rained some more repeated steps 1-5 till everything froze for the winter .

The only real thing accomplished was got most of old pond hole filled but that still also needs topping up. You can follow my trials and tribulations of my own yard in a new series of posts called My Garden
